To me, that word is just scratching the surface of this brave, inspirational woman that I've been so blessed to photograph. When you go through the unimaginable, battle through the days that nightmares are made of, and land on your feet while still hanging onto the goodness in your heart... that really says something. Many people take bad things that happen to them and let it change them for the worse... not this warrior (to learn about Cara's organization, please go to www.MayaMatters.org).
Cara decided it was time to have some photographs taken for her husband, but really, for herself. After having gone through the worst kind of tragedy, she was ready to stand tall and continue to make her daughter in heaven, proud. I showed up to Relentless Performance for our session, to find an incredibly stunning, beautiful soul - that was shaking because she was so nervous! It always humbles me when I have such a graceful subject in front of my lens, and they don't even realize just how exquisite they truly are.
After a few laughs, a couple of tears, great conversation and some advice on posing, we dove right into our shoot. Cara was a natural!
The icing on the cake, was when Cara posted a few of our images on her own personal Facebook page - and received such an outpouring of love, support and 'likes'! To know that she saw herself in the same light that I (along with many, many others) see her, even if just for a brief moment - well, that makes my already amazing job, a million times better.
